Originally we had in mind producing many different forms of MSM product, and had no overriding interest in any one of them.  We just knew that we wanted to be able to offer a complete range of products containing MSM.

One such product, obviously, would be an MSM Lotion, or Cream.

So, we expected to have an MSM Lotion.

When I looked at the competition for MSM Lotions, I found many brands of MSM Lotion selling at about $1.00 per ounce, or $8 for an 8-ounce bottle.  A few were lower, many were higher, but I assumed that we should be able to meet the lowest price on the web.

Generally I did NOT look at the ingredient list for these products -- or if I did glance over them, I had not yet begun to understand the significance of some of the ingredients being shown.

Research and Development

 As I started to explore the design of a lotion, one of the first questions that came up was "what degree of quality do you want?"

Apparently in the cosmetic industry, certainly among those those who design and manufacture lotions and creams, it is VERY easy to design a cheap product and just as easy to design a fine quality product.  There are no great secret ingredients known to one company, but not known to another.

I had what might be called a "simple minded" answer to this quality question, and I simply said:  "Let's have a very high quality product."

That seemed very natural to me.

So, the laboratories in India, where my formula was being created, simply took the off-the-shelf formulas for very high quality creams, made a few changes they thought would be appropriate for a cream containing MSM, and put together a product for my testing.  I found one ingredient which is common in many creams and lotions, but which I felt was not appropriate -- I suggested we remove that ingredient.  We did.

That one ingredient, propylene glycol, is very commonly used in many lotions, as a preservative, but it is not healthy.  When we decided to remove it from the list of ingredients we discovered that we had removed the only "preservative" and understood that it might be necessary to have some form of preservative in the lotion.  This was because many of the other ingredients were "fresh" or "natural" and might cause some problem during long term storage.   But, we found that even in an open container, at outside humidity and temperature, there was no storage problem.

So, our research continued, but it was always driven by an overriding concern about high quality and effectiveness.  We knew that we wanted to go well  beyond the mere high quality ingredients of a fine skin cream.

That is when Dr. MSR Ayyangar brought his knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine into the product. While I will not describe our interest in proprietary Ayurvedic ingredients, and crystallized Ayurvedic herbal compounds here -- those being quite proprietary, even more than "quality" considerations we had the desire to introduce to the world a cream or lotion that would combine MSM and its penetration power with the concept of Ayurvedic remedies.  In other words, as fine as our cream might be, as a skin cream or lotion, we intended to offer a benefit in an entirely different area -- a health benefit.

The MSM cream, primarily designed as a delivery system for proprietary Ayurvedic ingredients, must have certain characteristics as a "cream" -- aside from the characteristics as a ancient herbal remedy.  The cream must have these characteristics in order for the proprietary components to work efficiently.  The marvel of this product, then, is that when it is judged ONLY as a cosmetic, or face and body cream, it stands far above the quality of other creams. 

It is NOT uniquely high in quality as a skin cream -- just very good!

Instructions for use:

* Preparation:
Wash the area with clean water and dry with a clean cloth.

* Preparation:

* Application:
Take sufficient quantity of CalmCream and thinly spread over the affected area and gently rub the Cream to facilitate impregnation into the skin of the affected area and the surrounding area.
