January 1, 2007That title is famus for an author who received the Nobel Prize For Economics -- writing on this subject. Yet Karl Loren has gone BEYOND the shallow depth of this work, to wrap up a large part of modern economics as it is taught and studied by men without morals.Dear !fname, Perhaps you know the story Global Warming? It is based on faulty science. But, more basically, it is based on lack of a proper moral code. The Tragedy of the Commons is a much less well known concept -- I commend both of these to you here. The Tragedy of the Commons is an old concept that people are naturally mostly interested in their own personal survival and do not take into account the "tragedy" whcn "common areas" like the air and water are damaged by the "greed" that ignores group survival dynamics. Thus, it is clear that sheep eat grass down to the dirt, while cattle do not. When cattle graze on "common grazing land," the grass will continue to grow. When sheep graze on any land, the land will soon NOT be showing any grass at all. Thus, the common area of grass can be ruined by sheep grazing that has no control over it. This is valid science. If you own sheep you may feel that you have a RIGHT to allow your sheep to graze on common land while those who own cattle feel that it is wrong for your sheep to use the same "common grazing land" as the cattle. I wrote about Global Warming many years ago and even featured this concept on one of my first Radio Talk Shows some decades ago. Somehow, the subject manages to continue to be "in the news" as controversial -- yet to me this continuing controversy serves well to point out that large class of people who fail to apply simple logic to their thinking and, even more basically, are so immoral that they are unable to see or understand simple logic. Dear Karl, A couple of years ago I read a book written in the US called something like 'Suppressed inventions', which described various inventions within different fields, which all were presented as having been suppressed due to big finance interests. I unfortunately don't remember the exact name of the book, but Tesla was one of the important figures in it I do remember. In that book one article especially caught my attention - it told about mineral depleted soil and that a solution for that had been found, (which was said to having been suppressed) and which was to use granite stone. That particular type of stone was said to be composed of all the 77 trace minerals in correct relative amounts. A solution also was said to be to grind that stone to dust and then spread this dust on soil in order to provide the minerals in a form easily accessible to microorganisms. I tried this out at my parents place last year: They have an apple tree, which was planted some 10 years ago in the same place as had some 20 and more years ago also been fruit trees for many years. Usual pesticides and fertilizers have not been used in that place. This new apple tree had worn apples but they were small and badly developed. So in autumn 2005 I ground some dust from a granite stone with an electric grinder and spread the dust on the grass below the branches of that apple tree. And this year - guess what - the tree bore big, healthy and very well tasting apples - at least that was what I think I observed. This is only a single and not too well controlled test ofcourse, but more of such could be interesting to make to confirm it. Maybe it would be possible to get some organically run farms involved!!
The truth is that group morality is just as important as personal morality -- our society currently lacks an effective system for handling unethical groups (such as Corporate scams and terrorists). Here is an example of GIGANTIC LIES spread by immoral people. The first lie is that the use of fossile fule leads to global warming -- that is tripe. The second lie is that chemical fertilizers are needed to produce healthy crops. When plain rocks, ground up into dust, prove to be as good as or better than chemical fertilizer, you'd think that some honesty was needed among our scientists.
