What’s happening? asked the traveler.

My teacher says I have to figure out this puzzle or I can’t pass the course!

The Shopping Cart

The "shopping cart" has been working well now for a couple weeks.

Last week I added another important part to it.  NOW you can enter your credit card number in the order form and it is secure.

That means that your credit card number does NOT get sent to me by eMail (which is not secure).  Instead your credit card information is stored in a "secure file" located on the "web host provider."  This file is protected by passwords so that only I can gain access to the file.  I can change the password as I wish.   I visit this file, using our secret password, and get the credit card information.   It's interesting, the information STILL doesn't come to me by eMail.  Instead, I use my browser to access the secret file -- I just look at it, and copy it onto a note pad for use within the office.

So, you can use the Shopping Cart with confidence.

The shipping charges are still a bit simplistic == I'll be working on getting a more sophisticated shipping formula.

Also, you might notice that the discounts available on the web site are slightly different from what we have been using here at "home" for many years.  I had to come up with a discount procedure that was more simple for the Internet.

Actually, as we enter your purchases in our main computer you can become eligible for discounts that are larger than those shown on the Internet -- and you will get whatever discount is the largest when you order -- the discount shown on the Internet, or the discount you have earned according to your accumulated purchases that show up on our main computer.

Reminder On The "Channel"
