I had a child when I was 39 years old and as a result was diagnosed with edema and hypothyroidism (the slow metabolism). Some of the symptoms I suffered were hair loss, dryness, lack of nail growth and terrible water retention. I was using medication for these symptoms for four years without much results when a friend of my husbands, Robert F. Brooksby DO, recommended that everyone should supplement their diets with at least a tablespoon of MSM daily.
We decided to try it not knowing how it would affect us and were pleasantly surprised with the results to say the least. For the first time in years my hair is long and full, I don't suffer the drying and breaking off that it used to do and now it is half way down my back. My husband’s hair is healthy and shiny as well. My nails have grown strong and healthy and we both have noticed a regularity in our bowel functions (you asked). My husband and I practice good health habits and were really surprised at how good this stuff made us feel.
I think the biggest plus for me though was how I don't suffer from edema if I take MSM every day. I don't retain water, get the headaches I used to get, or have the joint pain. I am currently 48 years old, teach aerobic classes, tap and jazz dance, ride a horse everyday, teach weight training classes and am in the best shape of my life. My weight is down (something I have struggled with my whole life) and have never felt better. I really think all women and men would benefit from using MSM.
Also, my husband has suffered from Agent Orange exposure skin conditions for 30 years until he started using the MSM and doesn't have the problem now. I notice that I have to use it everyday for the benefits, for me it's worth it. Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
