Congratulations!! B-R-A-V-O!! You sure say some heavyweight true facts! What we
only murmured in our conversations, you have brought to the pragmatic dimension.
You are right in many of the fact you write, and I say this as a member of the
medical profession. We who have studied in Europe are very skeptical of US
medical practice for being too interventionist [unilateralism & materialism
seems to be in the heart of all US intervention]. Do we admit Celebrex and
Vioxx, just because of the Lab's marketing? ...aren't we supposed to have
studied Pharmacology to criticize these harmful drugs for our friends - our
patients??
The misuse and abuse of MRI, CT-scans, etc. and interpreted as tumors - which
almost any person alive with >45 yrs. can have - and "pre-empted" as
cancer?....... well, I believe that is the worst genocide in world history.
What happened to our most valuable maxim: "Primum
non nocere"?
The US medical profession must first try to give free Medicine to every citizen
before it can do these minute obsession and cult for the $$$$.....
BECAUSE MEDICINE IS LIKE DEMOCRACY &
freedom..... if it cannot be given to everybody, it's for nobody!
Hurray to you........ you're a voice in the dessert, shouting the truth and
possibly saving more people than the whole AMA. More power to you and your team
- you are not alone - count me in, amigo! You're the Marx "Humanist" of the
21st. Century.

When I used the word "rare" with you -- I was referring to the fact that very few "regular MDs" ever have been willing to agree with me publicly.
I suppose you know that I lived in the Philippines for a few years -- worked as the EVP for Delgado Bros. Transportation. The Delgados own the Hilton Hotel, and other businesses.
The two brothers each have eldest sons who had received MBA degrees in the US and were younger than I. Their fathers figured it would be helpful to their sons to have a man with an MBA (Harvard) help in the transition from the old style of management (theirs) to the new MBA style for their sons.
I won't say that this job was a big success for me, but I certainly enjoyed the Philippines and the people.

Karl, what a small world: I know the Delgados [Ricky and Robby] a lot
- well we studied together High School and we are all from Class '61 of Ateneo
de Manila.
Robby lives 20 days in Manila + 10 days in Canada every month [has the family
there]; Ricky owns Guam's Verison and goes there once or twice a month too
though he stay much in Manila. You will celebrate your 74th. B'day and we are 60
yrs old....... is that correct with your memory of them?
When I see them, I will surely say hello for you, Karl.
I know exactly what you mean by "rare" but Vive la diferance!.... this new age
medical avarice must be put on the chair of the accused, and you are just on the
right track.
Thanks for offering to put my picture but I do not like protagonism and prefer

I thought I would give you a quick background on my stay at Delgado Bros.
One of the brothers who hired me liked me a lot -- the other one didn't. When the one who liked me was out of the country I made the foolish mistake of going to the other one, my direct boss at that time, to complain about a "morals situation" in the Company.
There is obviously a great deal more that could be said, and may well be said differently depending on who you talk to! I was fired and given a few minutes to leave the building -- with an armed guard at the door to make sure I did not come back.
This was a stupid thing for me to do -- I was still riding high on the glory of the "Harvard MBA" and learned a few years later what should be the proper management technology.
But, as you might see, my interest in exposing "wrong-doing" was just as keen then as it is now -- it is just now aimed more effectively.
Oh, Franco, I was using my "real name" in those years -- "Loren C. Troescher." I don't know if Ricky or Robby ever much learned of my professional name and activities.

Do not worry, i will not mention anything to the 2 Delgados - what for? I
promise I won't as these matters are better left for the past.
I will share one thing with you though: At MBA you do not learn of the
idiosyncracies of the races and in Philippine business environment the rule is:
Intrigues and paranoia - and I believe that is what happened and that you nor
Ricky and Robby are at fault, but somebody else in the Company. Believe me, I
know what I'm talking about and have been a crusader on this matter here - in
fact a multinational company's CEO believed me to the point of taking back all
of the foreign expatriates in their offices here and leave it all to locals. I
was astounded but he followed each word I advised him to do and voila!........!!
I believe that: a CRUSADER of even lost cases is born that way and is not
made....... you and I we are modern Don Quixote and face countless windmills
throughout life but........... we are born that way!

You are so right on the culture. I'll tell you another big goof of mine.
You must have known Robbie's grandfather? I forget his name? Paco?
He was the first Philippine Envoy to the Vatican -- a very big deal for a
Catholic country.
When I was hired they had just finished building a new office, and had not
planned for a new senior exec in that space. They, of course, had fine offices
in the Hilton.
The old man (Paco ?) did have an office in the new building. I didn't know
anything of his background or the cultural importance of his status.
So, when I started they had no office space for me -- I was actually sitting at
a clerk's desk.
In my grand Harvard style I finally called for blueprints of the building and
looked for a suitable office. I found Paco's!
I asked who used it. Answer, Grandfather now and then.
I was very casual: "Oh, he doesn't need that space. Move him out and I'll take
that space."
Well, that was met with great silence -- no one ever said a word to me.
I know that I finally got a nice office with a private toilet!!!
I don't think he got moved.
But, I was completely insensitive to the importance of Paco's status and I was
acting boorishly.
Once I got back to the US, and started learning the management technology taught
by Mr. L. Ron Hubbard, I realized many stupid mistakes I had made in earlier
life.
I have been, of course, a member of the Church of Scientology for these past 30
years and owe any improvement in my approach to that.
I discovered Scientology while I was still in the Philippines -- so that has
always been my place of "re-birth."
What is your medical practice like?
We have a Philippina housekeeper == Peggy Lucero -- has been with us for more
than 10 years. I think she might be older than I!!

That was fast! Since we met, I haven't been with xx nor yy
so believe me I haven't and won't say anything - these matters are better
forgotten on both sides.
Believe me when I say about our business environment or culture......C-R-A-Z-Y
and never focused to our poor + overt institutional corruption ....what do you
want more, Karl?
While I'm in Manila, I do not exercise Medicine [I do not even have a license
here, as mine is European], but I do free medicine for the poor in the slums,
and every person in need. I'm a family physician, a specialty in Europe, and all
my patients are almost family to me, sharing our lives; my practice is Valencia,
Spain, and my patients come fetch me every evening to have dinner with them
NIGHTLY.... thank God I'm divorced cause I would have a problem...... but it's a
nice feeling.
At the same time, I am the Philippine representative in Valencia and Albacete -
a Consul General - BUT I DON'T ACCEPT SALARY FROM ANY CORRUPT GOVERNMENT.....
I pay for everything and don't accept dirty money + reserve
the right to criticize the govt. when I want to.
LOVELY, KARL...... you feel like a million $$$$$$. Since the last the coup-de-etat
I have tendered my irrevocable resignation and finished it all - I always wanted
to help the country but not to the point of a being a fool, and I won't do it
ever again even if they name me the king of the country!!..... ha, ha, ha. These
people have to be taught principles and convictions... and I will ....TRY.

Asia? That was a mystery-type reference? What's that about? One of
my best of friends lives in Mumbai -- we eMail several times per week. I buy
