Dear Karl,

The Herbal MSM worked the very first dose I took. I have been taking 1 heaping teaspoon 2X per day, as recommended.

It worked so well that when I did my daily stretches/exercises I was able to do many things that pain had been limiting me from doing. It was such a pleasure to be able to do these things without pain.

And now, after my 4th dose of HMSM I am paying for overdoing it and pushing too hard. I had hip replacement surgery in 1991, because of osteoarthritis, and once again, I have pain and I am hoping it will subside in a day or so.,

I also have other concerns about which I would liike to get your input:

When I take the recommended dose of the HMSM, or if I take that same amount of regular MSM (I usually take half that amount) it acts as a laxative and causes rectal bleeding and soreness.

* First of all what would you recommend about my dosage during this test period to give it a fair and appropriate trial?

* A concern I have is if I can see these outward signs of what MSM is doing to me what might it be doing to my insides?

* We consume Garlic, Ginger, Ginsing, and Turmeric quite frequently. Is there something special about these ingredients that are in the HMSM formulation or should I be able to take these ingredients along with my regular MSM and have the same results?

* Normally I consume MSM mixed in a glass of water, not in the same manner that I am consuming HMSM. If I were to take the same amount of MSM dissolved in my mouth as I am the HMSM would you expect the results to be the same as with HMSM?

* Is MSM something that masks pain or is effecting the cause of pain - swelling, inflamation or whatever is the cause of the pain?

MSM might cause loose stools, but not rectal bleeding. That has to be related to your diet and lack of fiber in the diet. Just increase fiber, or buy some health food fiber source. The bleeding should stop.

Test amount? There is no toxic level to the herbal MSM -- so simply take as much as needed to stop the pain. You can also take this for years, even high doses, and there will be no harm.

Insides? MSM makes individual cell walls more permeable -- so the cell can suck in nutrients more easily and kick out waste more easily. The increased permeability would "wear off" for different cells at different rates -- but probably in a couple weeks if you don't keep taking it.

You can continue taking those herbs you mention -- some are in the herbal MSM, however, and because of their mixture with the MSM, and the cold extract and concentration method, the herbs are far more powerful than taking "plain herbs."

Virtually all "pain killers" cause the impulses to be blocked in the nerve channels -- so the pain is there, but you don't feel it. I've written extensively about this at www.painstudy.com .
