to the page which describes all three of the oral
chelation formulas on this web site. Vitamin C is included in the
Life Glow Plus oral chelation formula to
the extent of 3,000 mg per day. That large dose calls for THIS page and its
information on the Bowel Tolerance Test. Super
Life Glow contains 5,000 mg per day of Vitamin C in the
recommended 30 capsules per day. Life Glow Basic
has a nominal 100 mg of Vitamin C per capsule.
Here is a typical question:
Dear Karl,The only little concern thought that sticks in my mind is on the subject of taking the 20 capsules a day. I guess specifically the 3000 mgs of Vit. C. and as you mentioned the EDTA. In the past I have taken close to that much C to shorten a cold. But it was before I had my gall bladder removed. I truly am not trying to put a full blown worry on the matter, but I do ask you, what if any are my alternatives, just in case. I know there is a guarantee on the product, which I haven't even read, but perhaps you will enlightenen me.
I want this chelation therapy to work for me in the worst way, so I shall preserver if at all possible. I am pretty sure I can do the 20 capsules daily, but of course cannot know my body's acceptance of them. And so this message to you and thanks for your response.XXX
In most cases even 5,000 mg of daily Vitamin C will not cause diarrhea. My guess is that less than 5% of the people who take my formulas would have an diarrhea caused by the vitamin C in the formula. (The possibility of the oral EDTA causing stomach upset is covered separately, HERE.)
Actually, very large doses of Vitamin C are well known to CURE various diseases and illnesses. I am talking about 5,000 mg per day, or even much more. See the studies below.
However, people sometimes worry that too much Vitamin C per day will cause stomach upset and/or diarrhea. Usually these are unfounded worries.
But, let me address them.
There is a simple test for sensitivity to Vitamin C. It is called the "Bowel Tolerance Test." Simply said it is a test to see HOW MUCH Vitamin C will cause diarrhea for you at some particular time. This test is not dangerous or harmful.
With this test you take more and more Vitamin C, daily increases in dosage, until you get diarrhea.
It is a test designed to deliberately cause diarrhea from some large amount of Vitamin C. You can use any form of Vitamin C for this test. Usually the test is done with ascorbate which is the most concentrated type of Vitamin C. The Vitamin C used in the Vibrant Life oral chelation formulas is "Calcium Ascorbate." This is a form of ascorbic acid combined with calcium so that it is less likely to cause diarrhea.
When you are in reasonable health you can probably tolerate 10,000 mg of Vitamin C without getting diarrhea. But, you might well get diarrhea when you take 20,000 mg of Vitamin C. People differ on this.
However, when you are very sick you might well take 100,000 mg of Vitamin C and NOT get diarrhea at that dosage, for that time.
So, the body needs and uses Vitamin C depending on the health condition of the body at that time.
If you are sick, your body needs and uses more Vitamin C, and you don't get diarrhea.
If you are very healthy you would have diarrhea at this same high dose.
You can always do this test -- no doctor is needed. Find your own bowel tolerance for Vitamin C. Then, just back down from that dosage to a level where you don't get diarrhea. THAT would be the level at which your body is using and needing the Vitamin C that you are taking.
For most people this amount will be much larger than the 5,000 mg maximum in any of the three oral chelation formulas.
But, if you are taking one of the formulas, did not have diarrhea before, but do now, you can test whether it is the Vitamin C in the formula (or any ingredient in the formula) that is causing the upset by a very simple test.
You are taking, for instance, 20 capsules per day of Life Glow Plus. You have diarrhea or stomach upset, which you did not have before.
Simply stop taking the oral chelation formula. If it were the formula causing the upset then the problem should disappear within a couple days. It doesn't take long. If the symptoms stop, then go back to 20 capsules per day. See if the symptoms return. If they return, no matter how rare this might be, you have found on first hand observation that the formula is causing some problem.
If the symptoms don't stop when you stop the oral chelation? Then the oral chelation is not the source of the problem -- look elsewhere.
So, test on your own body.
If you get no symptoms at zero capsules, but unwanted symptoms at 20 capsules? Then try 10 capsules per day. If there are no symptoms? Then either stick with 10 or gradually increase one or two capsules per day. If the symptoms return, cut back to where you didn't have the symptoms. You can always quit taking the formula.
The oral chelation formulas will be effective as chelating formulas at as little as half the recommended dosage. They will work more slowly, but will still work.
If you still have symptoms you don't want at half dosage, you can reduce the dosage even more. You will still have a very good multiple vitamin product, better than any on the market, but you will have little if any "chelation effect."
If you have had your gall bladder removed, or any other surgery, all the above still is very valid. You might get diarrhea at some different level than a person who has not had surgery. Generally the absence of some organ does not increase your sensitivity to Vitamin C.
Keep in mind that very large doses of Vitamin C, just short of the Bowel Tolerance Level, can bring about miraculous cures of many diseases, even including cancer. This cure of cancer is well known, but not much talked about because any doctor who recommended this remedy could lose his license. Any health food store recommending this treatment might get hit with practicing medicine without a license. The cure of cancer is relatively easy, but denied to you by the laws put there by the drug companies.
So, if you think you have an unpleasant reaction from one of the oral chelation formulas, the test to follow is described here.
