Australian Import PermitNews And Announcements
Vibrant Life has shipped most of its products into Australia over a period of many years. During this time none of these shipments has been held up or prevented from entry by customs. However, Life Glow Plus and Super Life Glow both contain certain ingredients (glandulars) which are prohibited for import into Australia without the importer getting a special permit.
It is possible that Vibrant Life will eliminate these glandular ingredients from the formulas since some other countries also worry about glandulars as a source of disease for the animals in the importing country. While Karl Loren feels that the glandulars offer a positive benefit to the formula, they are, by no means, of great and strategic importance.
In the meantime, Life Glow Plus and Super Life Glow should be imported into any country only with the buyer taking the risk for any possible customs problem.
In mid-2001 we introduced Life Glow Basic -- with only four ingredients. It appears that this will be relatively easy to import into Australia.
In fact, here is a message from a customer in December 2001, that will help you understand these things:
December 2001
Dear Karl,
You asked me to keep you informed of how I go with AQIS
[Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service].
I have finally received the LGP from AQIS. I ordered 8 LGP [Life Glow Plus], 1
CalmCream, and 1 LGB [Life
Glow Basic]. When they arrived here, the LGP was held back by AQIS and only
the CalmCream and LGB released. I subsequently applied for a permit. This cost
$60 and took about 2 weeks. I had to submit the details of the contents, etc.
The permit allows me to bring in LGP for 2 years.
[Karl Note: Note that the basic formula,
Life Glow Basic, was
not held up in customs. This may be the easiest way for people in Australia to
get my oral chelation formula. Get Life Glow Basic, and add to it whatever
other vitamins you think are useful.]
Hence, if a person in Australia wishes to get LGP the best strategy seems to be,
first apply with $60 and obtain a permit from AQIS. Then fax it to you to
include with the package.
If I had initially ordered a smaller quantity of LGP, perhaps may not have
needed the permit after all. Thinking this because I also get Transfer Factor
Plus from 4Life in New Zealand. In the last consignment noticed the inclusion of
2 papers. One said
"To whom it may concern
The enclosed product is a maximum of 3 months supply for our consumer, due to
the varying dosage requirements. The country of origin of this product is United
States of America."
The second said:
"Manufacturers Declaration
BioMedical Research Laboratories, LC is the manufacturer of Transfer Factor
Plus. This letter is to inform you that the Transfer Factor Plus product
contains less than 10% grifoli frondosa mushroom powder by dry weight."
These must have been done after some dialogue by 4Life with AQIS.
Perhaps if Australia is a good market for you, it might be worthwhile having a
discussion with AQIS to see what you need to do to get your products allowed in
without trouble.
Hope the information helps. If any questions, please ask.
Regards
Shanthie

Dear Shanthie,
In Australia, in particular, one of Vibrant Life's customers obtained a medical doctor's certificate that the Life Glow Plus product was needed for the customer's health and he was able to get a permit to import Life Glow Plus "on compassionate grounds."
In other words, this customer got permission to import Life Glow Plus based on information he supplied to customs, some of which Vibrant Life sent directly to customs, and based on his doctor's certificate that he needed the Life Glow Plus product.
Anyone else in Australia could find his particular importation to be stopped by customs -- it would, technically, be "seized" by customs, pending an investigation. The Australian customs is now sufficiently familiar with Life Glow Plus to allow a customer to import it, but only if that customer can supply the certificate from a medical doctor.
I quote, below, the message I received from Australian customs.
Hi Karl, (from Australian customs)
An import permit has only been issued for a one consignment only (3 month supply) as it contains pancreatin and glandular products. These products are not normally allowed without veterinary certification from the exporting country. However in the case of Mr M. the permit has been issued on compassionate grounds. Therefore, if other importers in Australia would like to import this product they would have to apply for an import permit and present a doctors certificate stating that the product is beneficial to their health.
AQIS [Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service] is currently trying to amend its legislation that requires the government certification for importers importing this product for personal use. We are hoping that the legislation will be changed by the commonwealth government in December. If the change goes through, people importing this product for personal use will be able to import the Life Glow Plus capsules without an import permit.
If some one wants to import this product for commercial sale in Australia, they will have to apply for an import permit. The conditions on the import permit might still require the government certification even after the change in legislation.
Therefore, until the legislation is changed the only thing I would suggest you put on your webpage is that prior to importing this product they should contact the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service. I would be a good idea to contact me in January to find out if the legislation has been changed.
If you have any more questions please let me know.
Thanks

Here is more:
The new legislation for personal therapeutics came into effect in December 1999. Which means that you can import commercially prepared and packaged therapeutics through the mail, provided they are for your own personal use and no more than a three month supply.
The are a few things that the therapeutics still can not contain. They are ganoderma, bee pollen and prohibited unprocessed plant material. I can not remember exactly what products you were intending to import, but if they contain anything above please contact me.
I have also attached our ICON entry in relation to personal therapeutics.
This information is available to the public on the Internet. You can look up our import conditions for most products at www.aqis.gov.au/icon
Yours sincerely

To Kristy from Karl Loren prior to the above response
I'm delighted to hear this.
My question now is: "Does this permit allow others, also, to import the same item?"
What reference would I make, on customs documents, or wherever, to accomplish this?
May I publicize this permission on my web pages?
Regards,
Karl

Dear Kirsty,
Sorry to be slow in getting back to you.
I received today a reply from my laboratory. The reply was, exactly:
"It [Hawthorne Berry] is not heat treated. It is treated with Ethylene Oxide."
I, personally, do not know what that treatment is intended to do, but I hope that this information is what you need to make a favorable decision on the importation of Life Glow into Australia.
If you have the time, I would appreciate any information you can provide about the problems which might be caused by the inclusion of Hawthorne Berry.
I have just re-formulated Life Glow Plus and it no longer includes "Hawthorne Berry", but does include a homeopathic form of Hawthorne Berry.
I would assume that a homeopathic ingredient, generally not capable of detection, would not be an obstacle to importation? The Hawthorne Berry is of the "6X" dilution. As far as I recall it would be THIS homeopathic form of Hawthorne berry which would be in the formula which you are examining?
If you are not familiar with "homeopathic ingredients" please let me know.
Regards,
Karl Loren
Hi Karl, (original letter from customs to Karl)
I work for the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) and I have received a permit application from a Mr DM. Mr M wants to import Life Glow Plus vitamin/mineral capsules and gave you as a contact in the USA.
Before issuing an import permit, I require further information about the Hawthorne Berry. Can you please advise if the Hawthorne berry undergoes any kind of heat treatment, and if so, at what times and temperatures it is heated at.
If you require any further information please let me know.
Thanks
