This is a very personal testimonial of a very unusual nature.

First, I am Karl Loren, author and webmaster of these pages.

Next, this specific sentence is being written on Saturday, February 20, 1999, at 11:42 AM, and will be published within a few more minutes.  I don't know who might see this page in the minutes and months ahead, but I expect that some will see it.

This is one of the types of testimonials I most like -- where the story is started BEFORE the results are known.

So, there is a risk, isn't there!  I can start this story, tell you how I am about to use MSM for some purpose and then you read the story and see nothing more??  You'll wonder what happened.  Worse, I might feel obliged to write, as this sequel continues, that my hopes and expectations didn't work at all!

Well, you are watching science on a personal level -- at work!

About ten days ago I went for a regular eye examination.  I'm 67 years old and need glasses for reading.  But, lately I've felt that my distance vision needed some correction. I got new prescriptions for my lenses and will soon have my new glasses.  But, the startling news from Mr. Dr. Gordon in Burbank was that I had cataracts.

I thought that was something that only happened to old people -- other people!

He said that the cataracts were causing a loss in vision -- but not to worry.  Cataracts, he said, are removed routinely and are the single most common elective surgery in America.  He also said that my cataracts were not yet at the point where I should consider getting the surgery -- that it might be six months -- maybe two years.

What could I do about it?

Nothing, he said!

Just wait until they got worse and then get the surgery -- simple, painless and wake up with greatly improved eye-sight!

So, I pondered that for a while.

Next, I had no idea whether MSM would hurt or even be harmful.

But, I am willing to experiment.

So, last night I tried my first eye drops.

I had one of those small eye-drop bottles.  It holds about one ounce.  I cleaned it well.  I took distilled water and heated it to boiling -- just to be sure.  I put about one eighth of a teaspoon in the water while the water was still warm and poured that water into the small eye-drop bottle.  After the water had cooled I gave myself the first drop!

What would happen?

I didn't know.

It certainly didn't hurt -- no sensation of any kind except the mechanical sensation of a drop of liquid hitting the eye ball.

I waited for a few minutes -- to see if anything would happen.

Nothing!

So, I put drops in the other eye-ball.

I was sitting watching TV and quite relaxed. But, you know, after about 10 minutes I realized that something HAD happened. I felt more relaxed.  I don't know how that could be.

I do know that for the past several months, without the proper prescription for my reading glasses, it had been hard to read and that I felt eye strain from all the reading I do.

I felt, somehow, that my eye balls had "relaxed."

That doesn't make much sense to me, but I do know that I felt "better" after the eye drops.

So, I did it again just before going to sleep, and again this morning.  I'll be doing it several times a day -- as I remember to do it.

I'm on the road on this new adventure.

What will happen?

Perhaps nothing!

I may not even know if anything has happened until I get my next eye examination.  I might not even get one for a year!  Or, if I think some miracle is occurring I would get an earlier examination -- but how long might it take for MSM to get rid of my cataracts?

The doctor has been my optometrist for  a few years and I know he has good records of his observation that I have cataracts -- so when I do get that next eye exam I won't tell him what I hope has happened, but I will expect him to say:  "Karl, those cataracts are gone!  What happened?"  Eventually I'll publish his full name and address so some investigating reporter could make sure I'm telling the truth!

Maybe not!

We'll see.

You see, this is a fascinating type of testimonial -- because you know it is absolutely legitimate.  People always "wonder" about testimonials -- did that really happen?  What else was going on?

So, we'll see.  And, you'll be in on this one from the very beginning.

Now, prudence suggests to me that I strongly urge you to NOT do this same thing.  I am not suggesting that MSM will "cure" anything.  I am NOT suggesting that MSM is harmless when placed in your eyes!

I am only telling you what I have been willing to do.

And, I do promise to keep you informed.  You can also write to me at any time about this and I will tell you whether I've continued to use the drops, or whatever.  From time to time I'll publish what's going on here -- on this web page.

I continue to use the MSM as an eye-drop.  It continues to have no pain or unwanted sensation.  In fact, I continue to observe that almost immediately after the drops are in the eyes I feel more relaxed.  My wife, Jean Ross, is now doing the same.  We do it when we remember, about 3 - 5 times per day.

I am now, by nature, pushed into figuring out a theory on this.

It fits in with the developing "Loren's Laws of Longevity," which involves flows and deposits -- that the natural body functions are flows, while toxins and disease are blockages to flows, or unwanted deposits.  The path toward health, within this concept, is to unblock the flows.  I further suggest that most of those blockages are mental, at the beginning, and then evolve into physical blockages.  Then, we address the physical blockages with detoxifying activities, leaving the reduction of mental blockages to your religion -- never to any pill.

I continue to use MSM as eye drops every day, usually several times per day.  The "relaxing" sensation is not as dramatic any longer, but I suspect I am just getting used to it.  I plan to continue, but probably not publish comments so often.
