Below are two self-explanatory messages. First, where B & B International refers to two earlier requests for testing of MSM from SGS US, the world's largest testing service. Both times SGS said they could not test this material, but those reports were verbal.
Then, Karl Loren sent a third request, providing additional information, and requesting a reply in writing, as you will see.
The second document is the reply from SGS.

I have twice sent you information related to my interest in testing a specialty chemical, first referred to as MSM, then Dimethyl Sulfone.
Each time you have indicated that my information was inadequate for you to identify the substance.
Now I have more information.
I have my own reference copy of Merck, 10th edition. The product, in my edition, is item 3254, on page 3258, named "Dimethyl Sulfone."
I had given you that same name previously.
Now, I have again had a confirmation that SGS Bombay does this test and must ask why you didn't make a simple reference to Merck to identify the substance.
If you cannot test it, still, even though it is listed in Merck, I suppose I cannot require an explanation, but with SGS promoted as the largest testing lab in the world, I am very surprised at not having gotten a more satisfying answer.
Perhaps you could send me some written explanation this time. I not only have to get this substance tested, I may have to explain to a customer that SGS, big as it is, is unwilling, or unable to test it. If you will not test this material for me, I would expect to be able to give a prospective customer some explanation as to why, and some suggestion as to where, in the US, they can get it tested.

Dear Karl,
I refer to your fax received today regarding the testing of the above referenced substance and would like to make the following comments.
1) The information you sent me previously (name of the substance, copy of
analysis certificates) was passed on to our laboratory manager who reviewed it and I was informed that this substance could not be tested at our facility. For your information, CT&E laboratories are specialized in minerals testing (e.g. coal, iron ore, sulphur, concentrates, etc.).
Even though the equipment may be available, the laboratory has never
handled this product, which means that no testing method(s) / protocol(s) have been developed and that the necessary standards are not available.The laboratory may not want to analyze a specific
product as it lacks the experience necessary to ensure quality analysis.3) As you must be aware, there are thousands
of chemicals used by different industries - listed by Mercies and others - and therefore you can not expect each laboratory to be able to analyze them all. Besides, commercial laboratories tend to specialize in the analysis of products commonly encountered in their area (for obvious economical reasons).4) The testing of a product and the subsequent quality certification is not just a matter of identifying
the substance by its name, its chemical formula and its physicallchemical properties.
