the page which links to all the other pages on this web site on the subject of "oral
chelation." Cysteine is the most important ingredient in this formula.
From the information on this page you can see differences among the various forms of cysteine, including price differences as offered by one supplier in the market.
Notice that there is one form spelled: "CYSTEINE" and another spelled "CYSTINE" This later form is normally NOT offered for sale as it is produced in the body as part of the metabolism of cysteine that comes from your diet, or capsules.
L-Cysteine is a sulfur containing amino acid which can usually be made from L-Methionine and elemental sulfur by the body. Jo Mar sells L-Cysteine Hydrochloride Anahydrous, N-Acetyl L-Cysteine and L-Cystine. None of the forms of Cysteine are very palatable and the taste is extremely sour. The powder is water soluble and weighs about 3.8 grams per level measuring teaspoon. Capsules may contain less than 1% magnesium stearate, an inert ingredient used in the encapsulation process. An adequate supply of Vitamins C and B6 should always accompany any Cysteine or Cystine supplementation.

NAC is a more stable form of L-Cysteine because it has an acetyl group (CH3CO) attached. NAC has all the properties of L-Cysteine but is more water soluble and said to be more bioavailable than L-Cysteine. NAC may be the most cost effective way to boost Glutathione levels in the body. Jo Mar's NAC is 100% pure U.S.P. grade. None of the forms of Cysteine are very palatable and the taste is extremely sour. The powder weighs about 3.7 grams per level measuring teaspoon. Capsules may contain less than 1% magnesium stearate, an inert ingredient used in the encapsulation process. An adequate supply of Vitamins C and B6 should always accompany any NAC or Cysteine supplementation.

L-Cystine is the stable, oxidized form of L-Cysteine. Cystine is known as a disulfide amino acid because it consists of two Cysteine segments with their respective sulfur atoms bonded firmly together. The body can convert L-Cysteine to L-Cystine and vice versa, however L-Cysteine is the more bio-active of the two. L-Cystine has a bland taste and can be taken in powder or capsule form. The powder is water soluble and weighs about 4 grams per level measuring teaspoon. An adequate supply of Vitamins C and B6 should always accompany any Cysteine or Cystine supplementation.

Glutathione is a tri-peptide that is sometimes referred to as "Reduced Glutathione". A peptide is a molecule composed of two or more amino acids. Glutathione is composed of the three amino acids L-Cysteine, Glycine, and L-Glutamic Acid. Whole proteins (chains of 50 or more amino acids) must be broken down by digestion in order to be absorbed by the body. It appears that some small peptides (chains of 2 or 3 amino acids) can be absorbed without further reduction. There is much debate as to the effectiveness of taking peptides instead of free amino acids. Glutathione powder has a tangy sour taste but is not as bad as L-Cysteine or NAC. It is available in both powder and capsule form. The powder is not soluble in water and weighs about 1.5 grams per level measuring teaspoon. An adequate supply of Vitamins C and B6 should always accompany any Glutathione supplementation.
In addition to the tri-peptide form, Jo Mar also makes a Glutathione Blend which is simply a mixture of the three free form amino acids. The purpose of this blend is to make all three amino acids readily available so the body can make Glutathione as needed. This blend is available in both powder and capsule form. The powder is water soluable and weighs about 3.8 grams per level measuring teaspoon. An adequate supply of Vitamins C and B6 should always accompany any Cysteine or Glutathione supplementation.
