Here is the story about the amino acid called Arginine.
Argine exists naturally in turkey meat. It helps build up the immune system and, in the body, converts into Ornithine.
Arginine and Ornithine also help feed the pituitary gland (inside the brain). This gland produces the body's only supply of "growth hormone" and it is this hormone, and only this one substance, which allows the creation of body structure (tissues, bones, organs, arteries, etc.). In other words, the entire mass of the body (not counting the water portion) is manufactured out of amino acids (which come from protein) but only when there is growth hormone available to help in this manufacturing process. Without adequate growth hormone you could not repair any of the mass of your body which is constantly wearing out.
Without sufficient ornithine in the body, your pituitary gland could not function properly.
The pituitary gland also puts out substances which are necessary in the creation of the cells which make up your immune system. When you feed the pituitary gland with sufficient ornithine (arginine converts to ornithine), you are making sure that there will be enough growth hormone to repair your body, and that the basic building blocks of your immune system are being manufactured inside your body.
(When you are young the growth hormone is what allows your body to grow in size. After the age of maturity, growth hormone is not used to make the body grow in size, but to maintain and restore body structure. Growth hormone, however, DOES allow you to add muscle mass, even as an adult. Thus, many body builders will take arginine and/or ornithine so that they can increase the size of their muscles safely.)
For equal weights of substance, Ornithine is twice as effective as Arginine, and for most purposes you can use either of these Amino Acids.
Amino Acids, generally, are expensive substances to include in a vitamin formula. Vibrant Life has included six different amino acids in Life Glow (more in Super Life Glow).
