What Is "Marine Grade Calcium?" It is a Meaningless Term! -- Psychobabble
It has no meaning other than what the promoters have created, out of thin air.
If you enter "marine grade calcium" and omit ANY with references to "coral" you get the following:
Your search - ["Marine Grade calcium" -coral] - did not match any documents.
In other words, there is NOT ONE SINGLE LISTING in all of Google for the term "marine grade calcium" other than those very many listings that include the word "coral."
I entered the search term, "marine grade calcium" into the Google search engine. The first 50 web sites answering up to that phrase are ALL promoting Coral Calcium, and none of them, should you care to study them, has any definition for this term other than what they have copied, without understanding, from one or another "other" distributor.
There are a few web sites where Coral Calcium is not shown on the first page, but these are nothing more than hype promoters who are doing nothing more than try to hitch a ride on the popular coattails of Mr. Barefoot. In this same way there are several "knock-offs" of the original Coral Calcium, and many of these make reference to Mr. Barefoot, although they have nothing to do with the product he introduced.
The actual "chemistry" of the type of calcium found in coral is HERE. In fact, the calcium in coral is something called "aragonite," as is well known to chemists. See quote below.
There are two common forms of calcium carbonate, aragonite and calcite. They differ in their crystal shape, yet their chemical formula is the same. The denser of the two forms, aragonite, is found in the hard or scleractinian corals. Whether calcium carbonate becomes aragonite or calcite depends on the "seed crystals" growth pattern. Proteins secreted by the polyp undoubtedly play a role in the growth of the crystals of aragonite and probably determine whether aragonite or calcite forms. (Source)
There is more honest chemistry of calcium HERE.
There is more honest use of "coral calcium" here -- but not a single one of these references makes reference to "marine grade."
Perhaps the term "marine grade calcium" has been used somewhere prior to Mr. Barefoot creating this meaningless term, but I have not found it.
Thus, the term "marine grade calcium" is psychobabble. The words, themselves, have meaning, but in the context used, there is no definition.
