There is no legally binding definition of the term "oral chelation," however the very first person to use that term was Dr. Kurt Donsbach and he set the original standard that the key ingredient in an "oral chelation" formula had to be the amino acid "cysteine." There are more than 150 separate scientific studies about how cysteine works -- and why it is so useful for oral chelation. Click here to review that data.
In the early years, 1980 or so, his was the first, and for a while, the only "oral chelation" formula on the market. It contained 750 mg of cysteine in the recommended daily usage.
Then, eventually, about 20 different companies got started, each selling an "oral chelation" formula. These formulas were somewhat different from one another, but virtually all of them remained true to the basic standard -- containing relatively large amounts of the amino acid cysteine.
Then the Food and Drug Administration closed down the two largest companies, including the one operated by Dr. Donsbach. The complaint was that these companies were making medical type claims for a product that did not have a medical type approval from the FDA.
Within a few more months every other company in the United States which was selling an oral chelation formula was closed down -- except Vibrant Life. There are some very interesting reasons why Vibrant Life was not closed down -- another day.
Of course the Vibrant Life oral chelation formula
contained, initially 750 mg of cysteine, and then early
on that ingredient was increased to 1,000 mg per day. More recently a
different form of cysteine, called NAC, or N-Acetyl-Cysteine has become well
known as much more effective than regular cysteine.
We have now settled on 300 mg of Cysteine and 300 mg of N
Acetyl Cysteine for Life Glow Plus, and 1000 mg of
Cysteine plus 300 mg of NAC in Super Life Glow.
Click here for the comparisons. Both of these
formulas contain 500 mg of EDTA per recommended daily
dose.
Life Glow Basic contains 400 mg of EDTA and 100 mg of NAC per capsule.
For several years Vibrant Life was the only company which advertised that it had an oral chelation formula for sale.
Now, you have to also understand that of the 51 different ingredients in the Vibrant Life (Life Glow Plus) formula, the cysteine was one of the most expensive. Not only was it the more expensive, but it was difficult to work with in the manufacturing process. It oxidizes very easily and therefore the finished tablets must be coated in such a way that no air can leak inside. If the air gets inside, the cysteine oxidizes -- turns black and smelly. In fact, by March 1999, the sources of bulk amino acids had changed and the only sources of amino acids provided raw materials which were somehow different. The same formula which had worked well in tablets was no longer "working" in tablet form. In March 1999 we had a new batch of oral chelation that was in good condition when we got them, but within a few weeks they had started to crumble in the bottle. We discovered that there was now some interaction among the amino acids that made the tablet disintegrate.
It did not oxidize and it did not absorb moisture -- it just started turning into a dry powder. It was still effective if you swallowed it by the spoonful -- but obviously we could not continue to sell this.
We had all the tablets in our total inventory taken back to the laboratory to be ground up into powder and put into capsules. I published a big news announcement about this and you can find a link to "news announcements" on every one of the 4,000 pages of these web sites -- just look for "announcements," click and read the "special announcements" dated in March and April 1999.
So, an oral chelation formula with 1,000 mg of cysteine is not a cheap or easy formula to manufacture.
As Vibrant Life went successfully through many years, a few new companies started to copy the Vibrant Life formula. At first they would simply copy the formula, but that didn't last long because they each ran into the grim economics of the contents of the formula. Some of these new companies were sloppy about their manufacturing process and had tablets which turned black.
Other companies looked at their costs, with a formula containing 1,000 mg of cysteine, and decided that their costs were too high and that they wanted to reduce that cost somehow.
The most expensive ingredient was the most logical choice for many of the companies that cared more about having a cheap price than delivering an honest product.
Oral chelation, of course, "works" by resolving the problem of plaque, reducing artery blockage to zero and thus increasing blood circulation. It is a fabulous health benefit.
So, you started to see companies claiming that they had an "oral chelation" formula for sale with very low, or even zero, amounts of the amino acid cysteine.
The Life Glow formula, with 10 tablets per day, contained 1,000 mg of cysteine. After March 1999 the formula was in capsules, and required 20 capsules per day to equal the contents of 10 tablets of the earlier form -- but the 20 capsules contained all the same ingredients of the original formula.
When I learned more about N Acetyl Cysteine, I realized that the NAC was even better than regular Cysteine, and replaced some of the Cysteine with NAC.
As the years went by Vibrant Life watched in horror as consumers, ignorant of the truth about cysteine, thought they were getting an oral chelation formula when they paid cheap prices for fraudulent products.
During March 1999 I, Karl Loren, learned about how my sources of information about using EDTA for an oral chelation -- those sources had deliberately deceived me and the American Public. That whole story is also told in a News Announcement dated April 25, 1999. Check it out. By that time I had added EDTA to the formula to make it even more effective.
By May 1999 the formula had gone through its final changes, taking advantage of new research and advice from some very famous doctors -- and the formula is now the most effective oral chelation product on the face of the earth.
